We are not commercial breeders, but keep our dogs as pets. We know from heartbreaking experiences with prior German Shepherds, that finding a sound and healthy coated GSD is not easy.  

We breed the kind of dogs that we enjoy living with - dogs that will watch over your home and do anything you want to do, yet are content lying at your feet or playing with your children.  We strive to produce excellent companion dogs, with temperament and health paramount.  

At Shepherds' Ledge Farm, we are lucky enough to live with a pack of long stock coat German Shepherd dogs. They are wonderful companions, protectors and friends, and share our home and 35 acres in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

We admire all kinds of German Shepherd dogs, but are especially fascinated by those with long, soft, "coats."  We delight in seeing the differences and similarities in dogs from imported European and American lines; working and show lines; "old fashioned type" and those bred to current standards. They are all beautiful, courageous, intelligent, loyal, trainable, athletic, and loving.  Some may have more energy or drive, straighter or more angular backs and different thresholds of protective response, making them better suited to different "types" of people than others.  This is a good thing, because there are many types of people for this versatile breed.  First and foremost they are all GSDs.  We only breed GSDs that are AKC registered, with sound temperaments, and who have passed OFA hip and elbow testing.
